Proverbs: The Way of Wisdom
"TO LIVE OR DIE"- PROVERBS 14:27- OCTOBER 14, 2018
Humanity can clearly be divided between the living and the dying. We are all either on the path headed to life forevermore in the presence of Christ or the path leading to death and separation from God in hell. In today's message, we learn the kind of lifestyle of those in each path and how to ensure we stay on the right path.
"WISDOM FOR THE FAMILY"- PROVERBS 23:22-25- OCTOBER 7, 2018
Every family is dysfunctional in some way or another. This is owing to the introduction of sin into family life back in the Garden. However, through faith in Jesus and his saving work, we can honor God with our family lives. We can walk wisely as married couples, parents, and children if we will only submit to God's wisdom for the home.
"WISDOM FOR HUMILITY"- PROVERBS 11:2- SEPTEMBER 30, 2018
What is humility? Why does it matter? How can we grow more humble? These are questions answered throughout the book of Proverbs and are the focus of today's sermon. We're called to embrace humility and resist selfish pride, for only then will we be able to walk in God's wisdom.
"WISDOM WITH OUR WORDS"- PROVERBS 18:21- SEPTEMBER 23, 2018
"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me." The truth is, words can hurt deeply. But just as deeply as wounds can hurt, they can also bring healing. We are challenged to use our words in a way that not only doesn't tear others down, but builds them up. The best way to build others up is to communicate the life-giving Word of the Gospel with others.
"WISDOM FOR HANDLING MONEY"- PROVERBS 30:7-9- SEPTEMBER 16, 2018
Have you ever prayed that God would help you live paycheck to paycheck? Hand to mouth? Month to month? This is the surprising prayer found in Proverbs 30:7-9. Aware of the temptation more wealth brings, Agur asks God to give him just enough to live on and no more. In this study, we learn that we must beware of the temptation that money brings and instead learn to live dependent on God for everything. Only then will we be able to use our money for the spread of God's kingdom and not our own.
"WISDOM FOR SLUGGARDS"- PROVERBS 6:6-11- SEPTEMBER 9, 2018
We all from time to time struggle with a little laziness. Here in Proverbs 6:6-11, Solomon describes what a sluggard is and warns us on how to avoid being one. Ironically, here we are told that those created to rule the creation for God are told to learn from the tiniest creature (the ant) the value of hard work. We cannot save ourselves by working for God's kingdom, but those who have been saved by grace are called to work joyfully for God's glory.
"WISDOM VS. FOLLY"- PROVERBS 8-9- SEPTEMBER 2, 2018
In this passage, Solomon lays before us wisdom and folly and calls us to choose wisdom. This wisdom is freely offered to all, offers more than money can buy, and has been around a long time. In light of this, we should choose the banquet wisdom gives over the deceptive bread and water folly provides.
"WISDOM FOR PURITY"- PROVERBS 5-7- AUGUST 26, 2018
How can we remain sexually pure in this sex-crazed culture in which we live? Solomon deals with us as with a son and warns us of the dangers of sexual temptation. He calls us to stay submissive to God's Word, beware sin's deceptive nature, and understand God's good design in sex.
"THE CALL TO SEEK WISDOM"- PROVERBS 2-4- AUGUST 12, 2018
Wisdom is not easy to attain, but the search is well worth the effort. We continue in our series on the book of wisdom with a call to seek wisdom, the character of the wise, and the choice we all face. We are left with a challenge to pursue hard after this wisdom no matter what, for its blessings far outweigh the effort to attain it.
"FOLLOWING THE RIGHT VOICE"- PROVERBS 1:8-33- AUGUST 5, 2018
We all hear voices each day. Not the creepy "in your head" kind of voices, but the voice of this world and the voice of wisdom. The ultimate question is, "Which voice are you following?" Join us as we study the wisdom of Proverbs inviting of to follow God's Word and not that of this fallen world.
"THE BEGINNING OF WISDOM"- PROVERBS 1:1-7- JULY 28, 2018
What is wisdom? Who needs it? And how do we get it? These are all questions Proverbs answers for us in its introduction. We live in a world of constant tweets, news updates, and lots of people with opinions, but wisdom is a rare thing. God's Word teaches us that to grow in wisdom, we must constantly humble ourselves before God and live in the fear of Him.
