Foundations of the Faith
For 1,000 years, there was only the Roman Catholic Church and all church services were in a language the people did not understand. No one owned a Bible and the Church condemned any Bible not written in Latin, even executing those who owned a Bible in their language. Into this period we call the Dark Ages, entered the Protestant Reformers who stood on the doctrines taught in Scripture and brought its light back to the people. Now, we own Bibles that are stained in the blood of these men and we must live on it, study it, and grow in our obedience to it.
Grace has been called a lot of names: amazing, marvelous, matchless, free. But what exactly is grace: God's unmerited favor. When we protestants say we are saved by grace alone, we are saying that God acted to save us when we could not save ourselves. Join us as we consider what it means to be saved by grace alone.
How can I be right with God? This is the single most important question and the one question the Bible alone was made to answer sufficiently. Join us as we consider what God's Word says about how we are justified through faith alone in Christ alone and not of things we do.
What makes Jesus so important? He calls Himself, "The way, the truth, and the life" and says, "No man comes to the Father except through me." His disciples say, "There is salvation in no one else" and, "There is one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus." What makes Jesus this special that we affirm all people are going to hell unless they come to personal saving knowledge of Jesus Christ? How can Jesus, His apostles, and we make such audacious claims in this age of tolerance? Because of what the Scriptures testify about Him. Join us as we consider just how central Jesus is to God's plan and how central He should be to our everyday lives.
In this last message in our series on the foundations of the faith, we are reminded that God alone deserves the glory for our salvation. Join us as we learn how we can live for God's glory even when we don't feel like it.
